Hutchison Ports Australia is part of one of the world’s most experienced port networks, operating container terminals in Sydney and Brisbane. At Port Botany, we’re a close-knit team proud to play a key role in keeping Australia’s trade moving safely and efficiently every day.

This position sits within our IT team and works closely with Operations - providing technical and system support to help maintain smooth terminal operations.

We’re now looking for an Application Support Officer who enjoys problem-solving, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and takes pride in keeping systems and people working at their best.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day operational and technical support for the nGen terminal operating system and related applications.

• Monitor and regulate system performance to achieve operational and commercial targets.

• Troubleshoot and resolve system issues in line with operational priorities and deadlines.

• Identify and address productivity bottlenecks through real-time solutions and database fixes.

• Maintain accurate records of system performance, incidents, and defects.

• Collaborate with IT, Operations, and Engineering teams to provide technical support for operational procedures.

• Assist with software testing, release scheduling, and deployment of system updates.

• Develop and maintain documentation for operational processes and procedures.

• Provide proactive support to minimise disruption and improve workflow.

Essential criteria

• Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to work under pressure.

• Experience with relational databases (SQL) and Unix-based systems, including log analysis.

• Understanding of web and messaging-based software applications.

• Exposure to software development and testing concepts.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong attention to detail.

• Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively in a busy operational environment.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Desirable

• Experience in a Level 2 application support or test analyst role.

• Exposure to Oracle 10g or higher.

• Prior experience in stevedoring, logistics, or transport operations, ideally with exposure to nGen or similar systems.
